Bamboo

We grow a variety of running and clumping bamboos. We have tried to place accurate minimum temperatures that they can be expected to survive in. This doesn’t mean they might not experience leaf burn. We have rated our bamboo's sunlight requirements with numbers 1-5, one being full shade and five being full sun. The running bamboos have received a bad rap in the past. They can be controlled using a variety of methods including root barriers, pruning trenches, to simply breaking off new shoots during the growing season where not wanted. Call or email us to discuss your specific contol needs. Their benefits include cold hardiness, colors of culms, and culm size. Imagine the awe of having your own small grove that you can walk thru, sit in, and listen to the rustling of culms and leaves in the wind. The clumping bamboo grow like most perennials, they expand from their base each year but do not send out long rhizomes. They are generally for zones 8b and warmer. There are some beautiful bamboos in this group that we are growing. We are working with some New World species (Chusquea, Guadua, Otatea, and Rhipidocladum) not common in cultivation.
