Moderate Moderate Partial Shade Zone 8-11

Product Description

Commonly known as the corpse flower or lily. The deep maroon inflorescence is one of the largest flowers in the world, about the size of a basketball! These plants go dormant in the winter but reemerge in the spring along the Gulf Coast. Most of ours survived outside in 3 gallon containers with 3 days in a row below 16f. In the ground we believe they would survive easily through zone 8.
You will receive a dormant tuber approx. 4-5" in diameter. These go dormant in their native habitat due to a dry season. In the US they go dormant due to cold stress. While dormant the rhizomes need to be kept cool but not freezing and relatively dry. These are shipped to you bagged in wood chips ready to store until planted in the spring. We will include a custom printed Plant tag with cultural information. Once warm weather arrives you can plant them with the growing point up covered with ½” of soil and begin watering as usual. These plants are sometimes late to break ground so be patient with them. You can fertilize them during the growing season with a water soluable or slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio. Buying dormant rhizomes have many advantages. Shipping costs are greatly reduced since you are only buying the growing point of the plant. The size of the plant can be considerably larger, especially compared to small tissue culture plants which have become the norm with online nurseries of late. The rhizomes we sell are from mature plants so they will attain a much larger plant size during the growing season. You don’t have to plant the rhizome right away or care for it until planted in the spring. With all these advantages why not give them a try in your garden this year.
