Ensete

Ensete is a genus of bananas from Africa and Asia with a huge pseudostem. Unlike the genus Musa it remains a single stem or trunk without suckers. It can attain mature size in a single growing season. The flowers are quite large but the fruits are not edible. In habitat the roots are what are eaten and are a staple in Ethiopia.
