Rhapidophyllum is a single species genus is native to the southeastern US and is cold hardy to zone 6 or colder. It has beautifully shaped fan leaves and grows in the shade of forest canopies. It has needles along the trunks leaf bases and is almost extinct in its native habitat. The needle palm is a must have in the cold hardy palm garden.
