This single species genus is a native of the US from southeastern Louisiana along the Gulf coast to Florida and throughout. It has a fan shaped leaf and the color is green except along the Atlantic coast of Florida where it is a silver to almost platinum color. It typically is near trunkless but old specimens grow trunks up to 20 feet. These trunks usually are prostrate but occasionally grow more upright.
