About David and Cheri Glover

David and Cheri Glover are rarely far from their paradise: a 20-acre retreat that allows them to lavish a lifetime of love for plants and animals right where they live and work and where they can now directly care for the environment and grow a wondrous array of beautiful plants.

To build their tropical dream together, however, they first had to find each other.

Before Tejas Tropicals

David’s interest in the exotic and his energy to search out the new began quite early. Working alongside his father in the family garden, David cultivated a love of plants, birds and other living things. In this way, he both experienced and inherited generations of hands-on knowledge, right at the roots.

Cheri grew up with all the usual pets, developing her gift to heal and care for animals. She eventually expanded her horizons to include foundling lizards, skunks and a taste for other, more exotic pets. It wasn’t until much later, when she met David, that one of her unmet wishes was fulfilled.

David arrived one day during their courtship without the conventional cut flower bouquet. Instead, Cheri was presented with the spider monkey she had always dreamed of raising. He had found a reputable breeder and gallantly flew around the world to surprise her, and that is how their true and special story started.

At Tejas Tropicals

As the resident expert on all things horticultural at Tejas Tropicals, David loves to connect directly with people inquiring about tropicals. He relishes opportunities to help people select the plants that best match their individual interest and the particular conditions of the space they hope to enhance and beautify. His legendary commitment to service, including aftercare, is often acknowledged by his loyal customers as their secret of success.

David is continually on the hunt to source new and exotic plants through a worldwide network of botanical contacts he has developed. They help him unearth rare finds in tropicals as far afield as South Asia, South & Central America, Southeast Asia and China. This passion for discovery carries on through the challenges of locating plants, solving logistics and licensing hurdles, all to bring special finds home for North American gardeners to enjoy.

Cheri completes the cycle of service in her management of the grounds and the family of lively animals that further enrich the total Tejas Tropicals experience. When David and Cheri do need a helping hand, they call on the craftsmen they’ve trained and trust to help care for the plants and the custom hand packing of special orders to be shipped reliably across the continental United States.
